The Rwandan army has strongly denied claims suggesting that President Paul Kagame's health is "extremely at risk," labeling the reports as false and intended to mislead the public.
These claims surfaced after President Kagame had not been seen in public for nearly three weeks, sparking intense discussions on social media and political platforms. Some of his opponents have seized this situation to spread allegations regarding his health.
Among those making such claims is David Himbara, a government opponent living in exile and a former economic advisor to Kagame, who has asserted that the President is in Germany receiving medical treatment.
However, Rwandan government spokesperson Yolande Makolo was quoted by the Taarifa newspaper stating that President Kagame is safe and resting like any other person: "The President is well and resting normally," Makolo said.
According to official records, President Kagame was last seen in public on June 6, 2025, when he met with a group from Hope Haven Christian School in Kigali.
The British news agency BBC has reported that its attempts to contact the President's office regarding these claims have not yielded any results so far.
Nevertheless, the Rwandan army has emphasized that the information concerning the President's health is false and urges institutions and individuals to be cautious of baseless rumors.
