The Tanzanian national team, known as the Taifa Stars, has continued to excel in the CECAFA Three Nations tournament by defeating Senegal with a score of 2-1 in a match held at the Black Rhinos Stadium in Karatu, Tanzania.
Senegal's national team struck first, scoring in the 8th minute through Mapathe Mbodji. However, the Stars made a remarkable comeback with a penalty goal from Abdul Sopu in the 53rd minute, followed by Ibrahim Hamad Bacca, who netted the winning goal in the 56th minute.
This tournament, featuring the nations of Tanzania, Uganda, and Senegal, serves as preparation for the upcoming CHAN 2024 competition, which is set to kick off on August 2, 2025.
It is noteworthy that Tanzania has won both of its matches, leaving Karatu with a total of six points. In their first game, they triumphed over Uganda with a score of 1-0.
The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, popularly known as FA, has stated that the Tanzanian team is in good form. He made these remarks following Tanzania's victory against Uganda, emphasizing that anything can happen in football.
It is important to remember that in this special CECAFA tournament, which included three teams—Tanzania, Uganda, and Senegal—the champion is Tanzania.
In the match played on July 27, 2025, at the Black Rhino Stadium, Tanzania secured a 2-1 victory over Senegal after 90 minutes of play.
FA remarked, "The team is ready; I haven't seen many teams participating. However, among the teams that have participated, Uganda and Senegal are strong. Currently, we have a statistical chance to claim this championship.
"Achieving results against Uganda and Senegal shows that we have taken the CHAN title here in Karatu. There is still the entire CHAN 2024 for Africa that we are going to participate in. We have a great opportunity to win this trophy more than ever, but in football, anything can happen."
