CHAN 2024 Begins: What to Expect as Tanzania Competes Against Burkina Faso

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is set to officially kick off today, August 2, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where Tanzania's Taifa Stars will face Burkina Faso in the opening match starting at 8:00 PM.

This marks the first time Tanzania is hosting the tournament, alongside co-hosts Kenya and Uganda.

The today  match is anticipated to be fiercely competitive, with both coaches expressing their hopes for a victorious start to the tournament.

Head coach Hemed Suleiman 'Morocco' has said that his team is well-prepared after extensive training, emphasizing his confidence in their ability to secure a win against Burkina Faso.

He noted that friendly matches prior to the tournament have helped ease pressure on the players, particularly the younger ones, who have shown promising performance alongside their more experienced teammates.

Morocco also mentioned that the squad is largely injury-free, with only Clement Mzize dealing with a minor issue that allows him to continue training while awaiting a final assessment from the team doctor.

He urged soccer fans in the country to come out in large numbers to support Taifa Stars, providing the players with the motivation to fight harder.

Goalkeeper Aishi Manula, speaking on behalf of his teammates, highlighted their primary goal of accumulating as many points as possible in the early stages to secure a strong position in the tournament.
