The government has received a donation of 30 million shillings from NMB Bank to purchase tickets for fans and provide incentives for the players of the Tanzanian national team (Taifa Stars) as they prepare for the quarter-final match of CHAN against Morocco, scheduled for this Friday, August 22, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam today during the handover ceremony, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, who is also the Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, expressed gratitude to the bank for this contribution, stating that it supports President Samia Suluhu Hassan's efforts to promote sports in the country.
"We thank NMB Bank for the funds they have provided to support President Samia's initiatives in sports, ensuring our national team reaches the finals in this CHAN tournament," he said.
He urged other stakeholders to step forward and assist Taifa Stars, while encouraging Tanzanians to fill the stadium to support the team.
On his part, Donatus Richard, a representative from NMB, mentioned that out of the funds, 20 million shillings will be used to buy tickets for fans, and 10 million shillings will serve as incentives for the players.
Yanga's spokesperson, Ally Kamwe, congratulated Taifa Stars for reaching the quarter-finals without losing any matches and expressed his belief that the team will bring pride to Tanzanians by defeating Morocco.
"This is the year for the cup to come home. We have a strong squad, and we urge fans to come out in large numbers" he added.
