The CEO Roundtable of Tanzania  has been commended for its significant contribution to promoting ethical leadership and accountability in the country through the CEO Apprenticeship Programme (CAP). This initiative aims to prepare the next generation of leaders to take on leadership roles in private institutions across the nation.

‎Launched in 2019 with the approval of the Prime Minister's Office, this program seeks to fill the leadership gap that has existed in the country, where many top positions relied heavily on foreign experts. Through CAP, talented Tanzanian professionals have been receiving in-depth training on global leadership, work ethics, and accountability for the benefit of the nation.

‎Speaking at the ceremony honoring 20 graduates from the fifth cohort of the program held at the Hyatt Regency Kilimanjaro Hotel, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Leadership Institute (Uongozi Institute), Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, who is also a former Chief Secretary, praised CEOrt for initiating this unique program that significantly contributes to the country's leadership development.

‎"What touches me most about this program is that one of the main responsibilities of the institution I lead is to nurture and prepare ethical and patriotic leaders – especially in the public sector but also in the private sector. Therefore, as CAP aims to develop top leaders in the private sector, we are doing the same for the public sector. Our collaboration through CAP continues to bear fruit for the nation," said Ambassador Sefue.

‎On his part, the Chairperson of CEOrt, Mr. David Tarimo, stated that the platform takes pride in making a substantial contribution to the country's economy by producing excellent leaders who guide institutions in various sectors such as finance, technology, health, and manufacturing.

‎Through CAP, over 90 graduates have received exceptional leadership training. More than 30% of these graduates already hold high-ranking leadership positions in both government and the private sector, including women. We continue to ensure that each year we have at least 25% female participants in this program," said Mr. Tarimo.

‎Mr. David Nchimbi, Chairman of the NMB Bank Board, stated that this program addresses the long-standing challenge of a shortage of skilled senior leaders with a strategic vision and the ability to successfully manage institutions.

‎"Some institutions in the country have been lacking mature leadership at the senior level, thus CAP helps to build a strong foundation of local leadership that understands the Tanzanian environment and has the capacity to compete internationally," Mr. Nchimbi remarked.

‎Meanwhile, the Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti, Mr. Simon Shayo, emphasized that the growth of the private sector cannot be achieved without strong ethical leadership. He stressed that economic success requires leaders who care about integrity and the overall welfare of the community.

‎On her part, the CEO of CEOrt, Ms. Santina Benson, mentioned that the goals of the CAP program are to prepare innovative, trustworthy leaders with a vision for bringing positive change to the institutions they represent.

‎"Through this training, CAP is cultivating a new generation of leaders capable of driving change," Ms. Santina said.

‎Graduates of the program also shared how they benefited. Nguvu Kamando, Business Director at Vodacom, noted that CAP is a powerful tool that has helped him enhance his leadership skills through the in-depth training provided by expert trainers.

‎Bi. Anitha Raymos, the Managing Director of Silent Ocean, said that the training she received has helped her realize that women possess the same leadership capabilities as men, emphasizing that gender leadership should not have 'boundaries'

‎During the event, institutions and stakeholders that significantly contributed to the success of the program were awarded honorary prizes. Among those recognized were Derm Group, Bakhresa Group, CRDB and NMB banks, along with Mr. Carl Wagner from Strathmore Global and Mr. Roger Boniface from Edisim. The CAP program has been designed to create a bridge between the current generation of prospective leaders in various institutions.
