Former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, joined the renowned global philanthropist, Bill Gates, at the Goalkeepers event held last night in New York City, USA.
The event, organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, brought together leaders, development stakeholders, and celebrities from various parts of the world, all united in their mission to promote investment in health and sustainable development.
This year's main theme focused on the health of children under five, where stakeholders discussed ways to ensure that future generations grow up safe, healthy, and have access to quality essential services.
Dr. Kikwete, who has long been a leader in health and education issues across Africa, exchanged ideas with Bill Gates on effective strategies for investing in health, particularly in enhancing access to vaccinations, maternal and child health services, and community education.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kikwete emphasized that the progress of any nation relies on the good health of its citizens, especially children, who are the workforce of tomorrow. He stressed the importance of investing more in primary health services to achieve the sustainable development goals set for 2030.
On his part, Bill Gates pointed out that international collaboration and joint investment in the health sector are the key weapons to eliminate child deaths, stressing that the world must work together to achieve this goal.
The Goalkeepers event has become a global platform that brings together leaders, innovators, and politicians, aiming to share experiences and strategies for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
