The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has stated that Higher Education Institutions play a significant role in enhancing the education sector and preparing skilled, knowledgeable, and competent human resources for the nation's development.
President Dr. Mwinyi made these remarks today, December 17, 2025, while serving as the guest of honor at the 23rd graduation ceremony of the University of Zanzibar (ZU), held at the university grounds in Tunguu, South Unguja Region.
He emphasized that education is a crucial key to economic and social development, as the government continues to create favorable conditions to ensure that more youth have access to education, enabling them to build skills, expertise, knowledge, and patriotism for their nation.
President Dr. Mwinyi explained that the government, through the 2025–2030 election manifesto of the Revolutionary Party (CCM), has established specific strategies and directions to ensure that many young people have opportunities for higher education, including providing educational loans for students starting from the Diploma level.
Additionally, he stressed that the government will continue to support the efforts of universities in the country to prepare and produce human resources and professionals in various sectors, including health, education, science, and engineering, which are essential pillars of the nation's economic development.
Furthermore, President Dr. Mwinyi urged universities in the country to focus more on conducting impactful research that will help address social challenges and promote sustainable development in various fields.
Moreover, President Dr. Mwinyi encouraged graduates to utilize the education and knowledge they have acquired to solve challenges within their families and communities, live by ethical standards and discipline, and pursue their educational and life aspirations.At this graduation ceremony, a total of 1,146 graduates were awarded various degrees, including Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates, for the academic year 2024/2025.
