President Mwinyi's Strategy for Elevating Zanzibar as a Football Tourism Center

 President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi is transforming Zanzibar into a sports tourism hub through enhanced infrastructure and community engagement in fitness.

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that the government will continue to invest in the construction and enhancement of sports infrastructure with the aim of making Zanzibar a premier destination for sports tourism both nationally and internationally.

President Dr. Mwinyi made these remarks today, January 1, 2026, while participating in the 16th Fitness Bonanza organized by the Zanzibar Fitness Association (ZABESA), which took place at the New Amaan Complex Stadium in the Western Urban Region. The event involved 165 exercise groups from 25 clubs in Pemba, 100 from Unguja, and 40 from mainland Tanzania, with over 500 participants.

"physical exercise is a crucial pillar for both physical and mental health, helping to boost immunity against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart diseases." he said .

Furthermore, he pointed out that the annual bonanza serves as an important platform to remind citizens of the significance of good health for individual and national development.

President Dr. Mwinyi encouraged the public to continue participating in various sports, including football, volleyball, athletics, and traditional cultural games to enhance their health.

"Our government will keep promoting bonanzas, sports events, leagues,  national and international competitions to increase the appeal of sports tourism in Zanzibar." he said.

He elaborated that sports is a ' vital sector'  contributing to the development of tourism and the national economy by attracting tourists and investors, creating job opportunities for youth, and boosting national income. The government, in collaboration with sports stakeholders, will continue to strengthen infrastructure to meet national and international standards and nurture talent from grassroots to elite levels.

President Dr. Mwinyi asserted that through robust training programs, discipline, and effective management, Zanzibar can produce top athletes who will compete internationally, elevating the nation's status while improving their lives and those of their families.
