Can Taifa Stars Break Their Losing Streak? A Crucial Match Against Macau Awaits

Taifa stars play with Macao today

Taifa Stars today concludes the FIFA Series 2026 tournament by facing Macau at the Pele Stadium in Kigali, starting at 10:00 PM East Africa Time.

‎Three key factors compel Taifa Stars to secure a victory in this match for the third-place position in their Rwanda B group, which will be followed by the final between Liechtenstein and Aruba.

‎Firstly, they aim to erase the embarrassment of losing 1-0 to the underdogs Liechtenstein in their first match last Thursday, despite being favored to win.

‎The second burden for Taifa Stars today is to end the streak of disappointing results that have plagued them continuously, even after changes in the coaching staff.

‎Taifa Stars has not won in their last 11 consecutive matches across various competitions, recording four draws and seven losses.

‎Calmness and precision in capitalizing on opportunities could serve as two crucial weapons for Taifa Stars today, ensuring they do not repeat the mistakes from their previous game, where their attacking line squandered numerous chances that, if converted, could have led to a victory against Liechtenstein.

‎The recent defeat of 1-0 to Liechtenstein has dropped Taifa Stars three places in the rankings, from 110 to 113, according to the March chart updates; thus, another loss today could see them fall even further.

‎Macau does not appear to be a formidable opponent for Taifa Stars, having started the tournament with a 4-1 defeat to Aruba and failing to win in their last 12 matches, with one draw and 11 losses, scoring only three goals while conceding 27. As Taifa Stars enters this match ranked 113th in the FIFA world football rankings, Macau sits at 194th.

‎Following this match, at 1:00 AM, Liechtenstein will face Aruba in the final, which will also be held at the same stadium.

‎What Miguel Gamond said

Miguel Gamondi, the Head Coach of the Tanzanian national team, Taifa Stars, has stated that failing to capitalize on two opportunities they had during the match is the reason for their inability to secure a victory.

‎The final score was Tanzania 0-1 Liechtenstein in a game played on March 26, 2026, as part of the FIFA Series at the Kigali Stadium in Rwanda.

‎Gamondi remarked: "Anyone with eyes can see, we had two chances that we failed to convert, and as a result, we lost the match. There’s nothing more I can say except to apologize to the people of Tanzania. Football is about scoring goals.

‎"Our opponents took advantage of the opportunity they had, leading to that outcome. No one wanted to see us lose, but these are the results we have to accept."

‎Tanzania lost this friendly match in the second half after the first 45 minutes ended with a score of 0-0.
