Young Africans SC (Yanga) has kicked off the new season with a bang, securing a 1-0 victory against their traditional rivals, Simba SC, and claiming the Community Shield 2026 at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
This win marks Yanga's 10th title in the history of the Community Shield tournament, bringing them level with Simba SC, who have also lifted the trophy 10 times.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 31st minute by Albert Kangwanda, giving Yanga a lead that they maintained until the final whistle.
Simba attempted to bounce back and find an equalizer, but Yanga stood firm in their defense, ensuring they held onto their lead until the end of the game.
For Yanga, this victory boosts the morale of the squad as they embark on the 2026/27 season with the aim of continuing their dominance in Tanzanian football.
On the other hand, Simba SC will have to wait for another opportunity after failing to avenge their previous defeat to Yanga, who also triumphed 1-0 in last season's Community Shield match.
This title marks Yanga's 10th in the history of the Community Shield, thus equaling Simba SC's record.
