The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Tanzania, Ms. Eunju Ahn, for discussions at the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma, on February 19, 2025.
During the meeting, the Vice President emphasized Tanzania's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Korea, which has been in place since 1992 and has significantly contributed to various sectors in the country. He commended Korea for its support in education, infrastructure, ICT, health, agriculture, industry, and energy.
The Vice President highlighted that the strategic cooperation agreements between Tanzania and Korea in the mining sector could yield substantial benefits, given Tanzania's rich mineral resources aligned with the current global shift towards green technology economies.
He also stressed the importance of enhancing trade relations between Tanzania and Korea for mutual benefit, encouraging Korean investors and businesses to frequently visit Tanzania to explore investment opportunities across various sectors, including manufacturing. He noted that adding value to local raw materials would stimulate trade, technology transfer, and job creation for Tanzanians.
Furthermore, the Vice President expressed Tanzania's readiness to collaborate with Korea in workforce exchange, urging the Ambassador to facilitate the process of joining the Employment Permit System (EPS) to allow Tanzanian workers to access job opportunities in Korea across sectors such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, and modern agriculture.
He also pointed out the need for cooperation in education and capacity building for health professionals through specialized training in various medical fields.
The Vice President has also emphasized the importance of collaboration in cultural matters, sports, and the Swahili language.
In response, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Tanzania, Ms. Eunju Ahn, stated that during her tenure, she will ensure the effective implementation and acceleration of various agreements between Tanzania and the Republic of Korea, particularly in strategic minerals and blue economy development.
This partnership represents a strategic initiative that will drive advancements in development, education, skills, trade, technology, and science.
