President Samia Suluhu Hassan Honored with Visionary Leadership Award at Serengeti Awards for Promoting Tanzania's Tourism and Conservation

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has been recognized as the leader of the National Conservation and Tourism Awards (Serengeti Awards) for her strategic leadership in promoting the Natural Resources and Tourism sector. Her efforts to showcase Tanzania's attractions on an international scale have been pivotal.

At the National Conservation and Tourism Awards held on January 31, 2026, at the Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan was honored with the Special Visionary Leadership Award. This recognition is for her significant contributions to tourism and conservation, particularly through the films "Tanzania The Royal Tour" and "Amazing Tanzania," as well as her initiatives to secure financial resources for enhancing tourism infrastructure and conservation efforts. The award was presented on her behalf by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba.

During the event, Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba highlighted the achievements of the Sixth Phase Government, noting that the number of international tourists reached 2,097,823 between January and November 2025, marking an increase of approximately 9.02 percent compared to the same period in 2024. The Natural Resources and Tourism sector contributes about 21 percent of the National GDP, with 17 percent from tourism and 4 percent from forests and bees, while providing employment for around 3 million people.

Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, praised President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership, which has strengthened conservation efforts and improved infrastructure in protected areas, thereby enhancing Tanzania's international appeal.

The event also featured Braydon Bent, a Manchester City fan, who shared his admiration for Tanzania's attractions, including the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, and noted that his visit would remain an unforgettable memory.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for collaboration between the Government and the private sector, environmental protection as well as enhancing economic benefits for all.
