The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolph Mkenda, has said that the changes and improvements made to the curricula for early childhood, primary, and secondary education include the introduction of mandatory subjects such as Business and the History of Tanzania, as well as the establishment of two streams in secondary education: the general stream and the vocational stream.
Prof. Mkenda made these remarks in Dodoma May 27, 2025, while addressing journalists about the achievements of the Ministry over the past four years of the sixth phase government.
He further added that in the field of technical education, 389 curricula and 563 higher education curricula have been established and improved to align with this policy.
"In line with the policy, we have made changes and improvements to the curricula for early childhood, primary, secondary, and teacher education. Significant changes include the establishment of two streams in secondary education: the general stream and the vocational stream, and the creation of a flexible education system."he said .
"In this curriculum, we have introduced a mandatory subject in Business Education and the History of Tanzania, as well as strengthening language teaching systems. Additionally, in the field of technical education, 389 curricula and 563 higher education curricula have been established and improved to align with the policy and to consider the skills of the 21st century and the national, regional, and international skill demands. The prevailing saying in the community now is that education and skills are the entire plan."
Moreover, he said that the government has increased student loan funding for higher education from 570 billion in 2021/22 to 787 billion in 2024/25, while the total number of beneficiaries has risen from 177,925 students in 2021/22 to 248,331 students in 2024/25, representing an increase of 39.6%. This is alongside the removal of a 6% fee aimed at protecting the value of money in loan repayments and a 10% penalty fee that was charged to those who delayed loan repayments, as well as an increase in daily living allowances from 8,500 shillings to 10,000 shillings.
On February 1, 2025, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, officially launched the Education and Training Policy of 2014, edition of 2023.
