The mining sector in Tanzania is rapidly growing, creating job opportunities, investments, and development for both the citizens and the nation as a whole.
The government, through the Mining Commission, has been working to create a supportive environment by ensuring effective management, transparency, and the involvement of all stakeholders throughout the entire mining process. These efforts are a result of improvements in policies, laws, and the digital systems used to manage the sector.
Speaking today, June 21, 2025, at the Public Service Week celebrations taking place at the Chinangali grounds in Dodoma, Mr. Ashen Mwambage, a Mining Inspection Officer from the Directorate of Mining and Environmental Inspections of the Mining Commission, stated that many Tanzanians should seize the various opportunities provided by the mining sector.
He explained that in various regions such as Geita, Shinyanga, Mara, and Mbeya, citizens have been encouraged to participate in small-scale mining activities, which has significantly contributed to increasing family incomes and boosting economic and social development.
"The government has done a lot to ensure these opportunities reach every Tanzanian. Through the mining markets established in different regions, the prices of minerals are now transparent, government revenues are increasing, and miners are benefiting fairly," said Mr. Mwambage.
Regarding technology, he mentioned that the government has been at the forefront of promoting the use of modern techniques in exploration, mining, and mineral processing to enhance efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and ensure safety for small-scale miners. This has been accompanied by regular training for these miners.
"We should not sell raw minerals, but rather add value right here in the country. Adding value to minerals has opened up many job opportunities, entrepreneurship, and increased the national income," he added.
