The Maweni Regional Referral Hospital in Kigoma has performed surgery for the first time on a patient with a hip issue during the fifth day of a specialized medical camp at the hospital.
Speaking to the media on May 30, 2025, in Kigoma, the Acting Medical Officer , Dr. Joseph Nangawe, stated that citizens should come to receive this service because the specialists are attentive, and patients are treated with care to ensure they receive quality services.
"The hospital and the entire surgical team have made adequate preparations from the moment of admission, so I assure the public that this service is safe and sustainable, and today marks our first surgery at this hospital," Dr. Nangawe said.
Dr. Nangawe also mentioned that the efforts of the sixth phase government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan continue to ensure that citizens receive quality services by sending specialist doctors to regional and referral hospitals to assist in providing care to the public.
"These are the efforts of our sixth phase government, which has been bringing specialist doctors to our referral hospitals, and that is what is happening here today," Dr. Nangawe added.
However, Dr. Wilson Masanja, a Specialist Orthopedic Surgeon from Bugando Regional Hospital in Mwanza, stated that during this five-day camp, the service of hip replacement for a patient who has suffered for a long time has been provided, urging citizens to use Maweni Hospital for these services as traveling far is quite expensive.
"In this service, we have a 100% success rate for surgeries because everything that needed to be done has been done, and the goal is to enable this patient to walk again, so with this treatment, the patient will return to their normal state," Dr. Masanja concluded.
