Tanzania will host the World Travel Awards (WTA) for Africa and the Indian Ocean region for the first time on June 28 this year, with over 500 guests expected to attend from around the globe.
The Director General of the Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB), Ephraim Mafuru, stated that 50 institutions and organizations from Tanzania, including 38 from the private sector and 12 from government agencies, will compete for these awards alongside other countries in the African tourism sector.
"These are the biggest tourism awards in our region, and Tanzania has been given a great honor to host them," Mafuru said, adding that "Tanzania is the only country in Africa that will host the WTA event this year. Other events will take place in Mexico, Hong Kong, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)."
Additionally, Mafuru mentioned that Tanzania was chosen to host this year due to evidence of growth and its reputation in the tourism sector.
He further noted that this event will be used to promote various attractions in Tanzania, such as wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, beach tourism, and sports.
