Premier League champions Liverpool and Newcastle United have reportedly finalized a British-record transfer for Alexander Isak, securing him on a six-year contract.

Both The Telegraph and renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano have confirmed that the agreement has been reached, bringing an end to the summer's most significant transfer saga, with personal terms already established.

Isak is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Liverpool on Monday, just before the summer transfer window closes at 7 PM, with the record-breaking move poised for completion.

This deal surpasses the existing British record of £115 million, which Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Earlier in August, Liverpool had a bid of £110 million plus add-ons turned down for Isak, as Newcastle was reluctant to part with their star player without certain conditions being fulfilled, valuing him at £150 million.

Earlier this month, Newcastle expressed their disappointment regarding Isak’s shocking social media announcement, where he publicly declared his wish to leave the club.

After being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, Isak took to Instagram to say: ‘I’m honored to be acknowledged by my fellow professionals with a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.

‘First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me throughout my journey.

‘I won’t be attending the ceremony tonight. Given everything happening, it didn’t feel appropriate to be there.

‘I’ve remained silent for a long time while others have voiced their opinions. That silence has allowed people to propagate their own narratives, even though they are aware it doesn’t accurately represent what was truly discussed and agreed upon behind closed doors.

‘The truth is that commitments were made, and the club has been aware of my stance for quite some time. To now suggest that these matters are just coming to light is misleading.

‘When commitments are broken and trust is eroded, the relationship cannot persist. That’s the current state of affairs for me – and why change is imminent.

In a firm response, Newcastle categorically denied Isak's claim that he had received permission to depart this summer.

‘We are disappointed to have been made aware of a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening,’ the statement stated.

‘We want to clarify that Alex is still under contract and that no club official has ever indicated that Alex is free to leave Newcastle United this summer.’Since joining the club from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has scored 62 goals and provided 11 assists in 109 appearances for Newcastle.
