The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has extended congratulatory messages to the newly elected President of the Republic of Malawi, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, following his victory in the 2025 Malawi general elections.

Through her social media page, President Samia expressed that these congratulations are on behalf of the Government and the people of Tanzania, emphasizing that this victory reflects the trust of the Malawian citizens in Mutharika.
"I sincerely convey my congratulations to Honorable Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the newly elected President of the Republic of Malawi, for his victory in the 2025 Malawi general elections. I look forward to continuing our collaboration to strengthen the historical ties between our two nations," stated President Samia.
Additionally, President Samia praised the outgoing President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, along with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for ensuring that the elections were conducted peacefully and for the smooth transition of power.
"I commend Honorable Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the people of Malawi for the peaceful elections and the smooth transition process," President Samia added.
Tanzania and Malawi have maintained a long-standing relationship rooted in history, neighborliness, and social, political, and economic cooperation, with President Samia reiterating the commitment to further develop these relations in the coming period.
According to preliminary results, Professor Mutharika secured over 60 percent of the votes, significantly defeating his opponent Dr. Chakwera, who garnered approximately one-third of the votes. This victory allows him to return to power five years after leaving the Presidential office in Lilongwe.
