China has set a new record with the achievement of a 35.6 tesla all-superconducting magnet, as reported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This groundbreaking development took place at the Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility in Beijing.

Key details about the all-superconducting magnet include:

- A central magnetic field of 35.6 tesla with a usable aperture of 35 millimeters.

- This magnetic field is approximately 12 to 24 times stronger than that of a medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and over 700,000 times that of Earth's magnetic field.

The successful development of this magnet involved the design, manufacturing, and integration of the superconducting magnet system by the Institute of Electrical Engineering of CAS. It also addressed challenges related to health monitoring and precise measurement for high-temperature superconducting magnets, thanks to collaborative efforts with the Institute of Physics of CAS.

This achievement is significant for providing high-magnetic-field experiment conditions essential for advanced research in material science and life sciences. It will enable researchers to explore unknown phenomena in the micro-world and accelerate scientific discoveries and technological innovations in both basic research and high-end equipment manufacturing.

High-magnetic-field superconducting magnets are crucial in modern technology, achieving zero electrical resistance and generating strong magnetic fields at extremely low temperatures. They are characterized by high magnetic field intensity, uniformity, stability, and low energy consumption, making them valuable in national sci-tech infrastructures, advanced scientific instruments, high-end medical equipment, and energy and transportation sectors.
