Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said Zanzibar will continue to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with Kenya, noting that the historic and fraternal ties between the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Kenya have continued to bring benefits to the people on both sides.
During the talks, President Dr. Mwinyi said the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is ready to advance cooperation with Kenya in various sectors, particularly trade, investment, tourism, air transport, and the Blue Economy.
He stressed the importance of standards bodies in East African Community member states working closely together to harmonize product standards, remove trade barriers, and ease access to regional markets.
" Our government is pressing ahead with steps to complete the construction of Shumba Port, located in Micheweni District, North Pemba Region, which will strengthen passenger and cargo transport between Pemba and Kenyan ports, especially Mombasa," he said .
The completion of the port is expected to accelerate trade, reduce transport costs, and open up new economic opportunities for the people of Pemba and businesspeople from both sides. While , direct flights between Zanzibar and Kenya will help boost tourism, trade, investment, and people-to-people interaction between the two nations.
"We welcome private companies from Kenya to take advantage of investment opportunities available in Zanzibar, particularly in tourism, the Blue Economy, and other strategic sectors that drive economic growth and create jobs." he said.
Regarding the seaweed sector, President Dr. Mwinyi said Zanzibar is among Africa's leading producers of the crop and is ready to collaborate with Kenya in exchanging expertise, strengthening production, adding value, and expanding markets for seaweed-based products.
Kenya's Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Catherine Karemu, pledged to use her tenure to further strengthen relations between Kenya and Tanzania, especially Zanzibar, in trade, investment, tourism, transport, and other development sectors.
"Kenya will continue to work closely with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in identifying and pursuing new cooperation opportunities that will benefit the people of both nations," she said.
This collaboration is expected to enhance trade , tourism , business and other vital sector in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
