MeTL Group President Mohammed Dewji (Mo) has begun exploring new investment opportunities in Botswana, focusing on renewable energy and financial services.
‎Prominent businessman and President of MeTL Group, Mohammed Dewji (Mo), has initiated a process to seek new investment opportunities in Botswana. This move comes just days after the businessman visited Mozambique and pledged to invest TZS 661.93 billion.

‎During his visit to Gaborone, Dewji participated in high-level meetings aimed at discussing economic transformation, the investment climate, and private sector growth in the country. He had the opportunity to meet and hold discussions with the President of Botswana, Duma Boko, Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe, the Governor of the Central Bank of Botswana, as well as leaders of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE).

‎These meetings took place as President Boko's government continues to implement the Botswana Economic Transformation Program (BETP). This initiative aims to diversify the country's economy to reduce dependence on the diamond sector, attract new investment, and build new areas of economic growth.

‎In the discussions, both sides explored opportunities to increase private sector participation. Areas where MeTL Group has expressed interest in further exploration for investment include the renewable energy sector and financial services.

‎Dewji said that the meetings gave him a clear picture of Botswana's economic direction and the country's commitment to using investment as a key driver of development

‎" Botswana is among the markets with excellent investment opportunities and long-term partnership potential, MeTL is seeking markets where it can deploy capital, expertise, and a commitment to building long-term projects that generate shared value," he said.

‎MeTL Group's decision to explore the Botswana market is part of its broader strategy to expand its presence across Africa. Currently, the company has invested in various sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and logistics in several countries across the region.

‎During the visit, Dewji extended special thanks to Neo Mooki, Chairman of the Botswana Stock Exchange, along with his colleagues Oupa and Thapelo, for facilitating and coordinating these important meetings.

‎This move by MeTL Group also reflects the implementation of a directive from Tanzania's President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who called on the private sector and local businesspeople to seize investment opportunities in neighboring countries. The directive was issued during a meeting with private sector stakeholders ahead of preparations for the implementation of Tanzania's National Development Vision 2050, which aims to grow Tanzania's national income to reach one trillion US dollars. Before heading to Botswana, Dewji visited Mozambique where he pledged to invest more than TZS 661.93 billion.

‎These successive visits demonstrate the Tanzanian company's determination to continue being a key regional player in trade and investment across Africa.
