Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and development cooperation with the Union of the Comoros in a push to deliver shared benefits to citizens of both nations.
The pledge was made by Tanzania’s Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, during talks with Comoros Minister of Finance, Budget and Banking Sector, Moussa Abderemane, at the Ministry of Finance offices in Dar es Salaam.
Ambassador Omar said economic partnership should be at the ' heart' of efforts to deepen relations between the two countries, identifying trade and investment, financial and banking services, public finance management, infrastructure development, energy, tourism and agriculture as key areas of opportunity.
"We need to create a friendly environment that eases the movement of goods, services, capital and businesspeople between Tanzania and Comoros, because such measures could help expand trade, investment and employment," he said.
The minister added that the meeting provided an important platform for exchanging experience and best practices in economic management, public finance, domestic revenue collection and building an inclusive economy.
Meanwhile , Comoros Finance Minister Moussa Abderemane thanked Tanzania for being a key development partner in various economic, social and cultural spheres.
He said the purpose of his visit, accompanied by a delegation, was to learn how Tanzania has made significant progress in using information and communication technology systems to collect and manage government revenue.
Abderemane pledged to use the findings of the visit to improve Comoros’ revenue collection systems through ICT and tax platforms, a move expected to further stimulate economic growth in his country.
The meeting was also attended by Comoros Ambassador to Tanzania Ahamada Elbadaoul Mohamed Fakih, SoftNet Technologies Regional Marketing Manager Maharage Chande, and other officials from both countries.The strengthened cooperation is expected to accelerate development in both nations.
