Biden warns Europe about America's leadership amid Trump's Russia allegations

Former U.S. President Joe Biden has openly criticized his predecessor, Donald Trump, for allegedly pressuring Ukraine to concede territory to Russia, labeling this approach as “modern-day appeasement” that he believes will ultimately fail to satisfy Moscow.

In his first interview with BBC since leaving office, Biden said that Russian President Vladimir Putin views Ukraine as an integral part of “mother Russia” and cautioned that anyone who believes Putin will halt his ambitions is misguided.

He expressed confusion over the notion that allowing a dictator to seize significant land would lead to any form of contentment.

Meanwhile, Trump has altered U.S. policy regarding the Ukraine conflict, advocating for a ceasefire and reducing pressure on Russia, which invaded Ukraine in 2022, claiming his goal is to end the violence.

Biden voiced concerns about the potential repercussions of Trump’s position on U.S. credibility internationally, suggesting that European leaders are beginning to doubt America's reliability and are left questioning whether they can depend on U.S. support.

Reflecting on a fraught meeting in February involving Trump, senior officials, and Ukrainian President ,Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Biden remarked that the manner in which it unfolded was beneath the 'dignity' of the United States.
