The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has announced that the government is committed to enhancing the accessibility of electricity and clean cooking energy at affordable prices.

This initiative aims to mitigate health impacts, address climate change, and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Speaking on May 9, 2025, in Dar es Salaam during a meeting with Japan's Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Youichi Mikami, Dr. Biteko highlighted the goal of increasing the use of clean cooking energy from 21% to 75% by 2030, with active involvement from the private sector.

He also mentioned the establishment of a National Energy Compact for 2025-2030, developed in collaboration with private entities, including financial contributions from the "World Bank" and the African "Development Bank." This funding is intended to help ensure that 300 million people in the Southern Sahara region gain access to electricity by 2030.

In his discussions with Ambassador Mikami, Dr. Biteko expressed gratitude for Japan's support in implementing energy projects in Tanzania, particularly the completed electricity connection project from Singida to Kenya, and expressed interest in further collaboration on gas projects.

Ambassador Mikami acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Japan and Tanzania and reaffirmed Japan's commitment to strengthening this partnership, commending Tanzania for hosting the recent "Mission 300 summit" focused on electricity distribution in Africa.
