The Minister of Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama, has explained that Tanzania's achievements are a result of collaboration between the Tanzanian government and stakeholders, which has led to a decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates.
Minister Mhagama shared this during a discussion with the Founder and Director of Laerdal Global Health, Mr. Tore Laerdal, who is a significant partner in the health sector in Tanzania.
"The Tanzanian government is committed to improving the health and well-being of women, girls, and children to address the challenges they face by focusing on strengthening health systems as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO)," said Minister Mhagama.
Additionally, Minister Mhagama stated that the Tanzanian government has initiated various strategies to enhance the health of women and girls, including improving health financing systems and starting the implementation of universal health coverage.
"We have also begun enhancing the emergency referral system, such as the m-mama project, conducting assessments and monitoring maternal and child deaths, improving the quality of services for women, girls, and infants, and strengthening the skills of health workers through training and practical exercises," Minister Mhagama added.
Also, the 'clean energy program' in Tanzania has reduced mortality rate by 80% percentage contributing to well-being of individuals and children in the country under five years.
During the meeting ,they agreed to continue fostering collaboration between the institution and the Tanzanian government to further improve in these areas.
