Tanzanian health Minister Dr .Jenista Mhagama has launched an event of the Board of Trustees for the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) that took place today, June 9, 2025, in Dodoma.

She has inaugurated the Board of Trustees for the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) and urged the board to enhance the specialized services of the institution, ensuring that these services reach a larger number of citizens.

While speaking today, June 09, 2025, in Dodoma, after launching the board, Minister Mhagama called on the board to strengthen the foundations they found at MOI and to innovate in improving the delivery of these services to the public.

"Today marks another historic day as we launch a new Board of Trustees, and we believe it will strengthen the services that have already been established. We do not expect this board to undermine those foundations, and what we anticipate from you is more innovation to advance beyond where we are now," Dr. Mhagama said.

"I urge the board to ensure that MOI services reach those in need, as there would be no benefit from investments in specialization and expertise in this crucial sector if the citizens who require these services cannot access them." she added .

Additionally, Dr. Mhagama praised the MOI Institution for its ongoing efforts to eliminate dependency on specialized medical services for bones, brain, spine, and nerve treatments, which have previously required many Tanzanians to seek treatment abroad, making these services available here in Tanzania.

"I express my gratitude and congratulatulation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her national agenda aimed at making significant reforms in the health sector." she said .

On her part, the new chairperson of the board, Dr. Marina Njelekela, said that they will ensure they work closely and collaboratively with the MOI management to advance the institute beyond its current state.

Also, Dr. Njelekela has promised to implement all the directives given by the Honorable Minister of Health to ensure that the specialized and expert services at 'MOI' continue to be excellent and benefit both Tanzanians and citizens of neighboring countries.

Additionally, the Executive Director of MOI, Hon. Ambassador Dr. Mpoki Ulisubisya, expressed gratitude to Hon. Mhagama for taking the time to assure him that the MOI Management will continue to work diligently as directed, ensuring that Tanzanians receive the necessary health services.

In light of technological advancements, MOI will ensure the use of robust equipment in providing health services to the public, aiming for significant efficiency that will also attract neighboring countries in this field of health services being developed by expert researchers in health and health sciences overall.
