Tanzanian President Dr .Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially launched the National Development Vision 2050, set to be implemented starting July 1 of next year. She becomes the second president to develop such a vision, following former President Benjamin Mkapa of the Third Phase Government.

Dr. Tausi Kida, Secretary General of the Office of the President for Planning and Investment, announced that on December 9, 2023, President Samia initiated a process to gather feedback from various groups.

Dr. Fredy Msemwa, Executive Secretary of the Planning Commission, reported that over 1,174,000 individuals provided their input directly from their households.

Additionally, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State in the Office of the President for Planning and Investment, noted that the preparation of the National Development Vision 2050 involved all societal groups, utilizing both analog and digital methods.

He highlighted that 81% of the 1,132,837 participants who shared their views via phone, websites, and social media were young people aged 15 to 35, reflecting the country's democratic engagement, as 76% of Tanzanians are under 36.

The current vision, which has been in effect since 2000, will conclude on June 31 of next year.

The Vision 2050 is guided by six principles, with its primary focus on human development driven by a robust, competitive economy aimed at improving living standards and eradicating poverty. It sets three main goals, including elevating the country to a high middle-income status, fostering an industrial economy with a national income of one trillion US dollars, and achieving an average income of 7,000 US dollars per person annually, alongside the eradication of extreme poverty and positioning Tanzania as a leading food producer in Africa and among the top ten countries in the world.

This vision aspires that by 2050, Tanzania will become a model of resilience, innovation, prosperity, and diplomacy in Africa and the world, supported by its resources, strong infrastructure, and a skilled and motivated workforce.

"The country is expected to achieve an upper-middle-income status, with a gross national product of US$1 trillion and an average per capita income of US$7,000 per year. Its economy will be competitive and diversified, driven by industry and driven by a skilled and experienced workforce," the vision states.

Vision 2050 emphasizes the participation of women and youth groups in development, utilizing their talents, abilities, and motivations to achieve economic growth and inclusive development.
