The Sixth Phase Government, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has allocated a total of 16.696 billion shillings through the 2024/2025 budget for the implementation of the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP) in Tanga region.
Out of this amount, 4.450 billion shillings has been designated for the construction of various infrastructures at the Tanga Regional Girls' Secondary School, which has already been completed. This infrastructure includes 22 classrooms, laboratories, 12 dormitories, a dining hall, an administration building, and five teachers' houses.
Speaking on the matter, the Acting Secondary Education Officer for Tanga Region, Teacher Joel Laizer, stated that the government has also allocated 1.6 billion shillings for the construction of the Amali Regional School in Mkinga District, where construction is progressing rapidly.
Additionally, the government has set aside 5.842 billion shillings for the establishment of 10 new SEQUIP schools across nine councils in Tanga Region.
Furthermore, 3.505 billion shillings has been earmarked for the construction of six Amali schools in five councils, which are at various stages of development. On another note, a total of 1.274 billion shillings has been allocated for the construction of 13 teachers' houses, which are currently nearing completion.
The Head of Tanga Regional Girls' Secondary School, Teacher Chuki Athumani, along with ICT Teacher Obed Mndota, praised the government for its significant efforts in building the school to high standards, complete with all essential academic and social infrastructures.
Students Anjela Cosmas and Jessica Mussa also expressed their gratitude to the government for valuing the girl child by ensuring they are provided with a conducive learning environment. "They said that their dreams are now becoming a reality due to the substantial improvements in school infrastructure."
