The government, through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, has officially commenced the implementation of a comprehensive National Livestock Vaccination and Identification Campaign.

Today, approximately 400 livestock have been vaccinated to enhance and bring significant changes to the Livestock Sector, as well as to eliminate barriers that have hindered the sale of livestock and its products in countries with lucrative markets.

Speaking during the Livestock Vaccination and Awareness Campaign event today, July 3, 2025, in Babati District, Manyara Region, the representative of the Babati District Commissioner, who was the Guest of Honor at the vaccination and awareness campaign, and the District Administrative Secretary, Mr. Thobias Abwaro, stated that the Vaccination and Identification of Livestock is a continuous process that is long-term and will yield benefits for farmers and the nation as a whole.

"The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Honorable Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has approved funding for the Vaccination and Identification Program for Livestock for five years, from 2025 to 2029, which will cost a total of 216 billion Tanzanian shillings. "

"He has provided a 100% subsidy for poultry vaccines, which is equivalent to free, and a 50% subsidy for cattle and goat/sheep vaccines, where the cost for cattle is 500 TZS and for goats/sheep is 300 TZS. This demonstrates his concern for Livestock and Farmers," said Mr. Abwaro.

Furthermore, Mr. Abwaro mentioned that for a long time, livestock vaccination has been conducted sporadically at the local government levels, large farms, and by individual farmers without a coordinated approach that can effectively eradicate these livestock diseases. To eliminate these diseases, at least 70% of livestock must be vaccinated.

Additionally, on behalf of the farmers in Manyara Region, Mr. Abwaro expressed gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for approving and providing a subsidy for the Livestock Vaccination Campaign, which will benefit farmers and enhance their commercial productivity.

These are strategy that are aiming to improve livestock sector in the country to facilitate market and the production in high quality Condition for the purpose of building safe environment for animals and agriculture in general.
