Tanzania's Innovative Solutions for Tackling Emergency-Related Mortality

Tanzania innovative solution to tackle health mortality rate

The government, through the Ministry of Health, has reduced emergency-related deaths by over 40% for Tanzanians by improving emergency service infrastructure.

Health Minister Hon. Jenista Mhagama stated this during the opening of the Annual Meeting of Regional and Council Chief Medical Officers in Dodoma, which is themed "The Role of Regional and Council Chief Medical Officers in Enhancing the Quality of Health Services Towards Universal Health Coverage."

She mentioned that to continue decreasing these deaths, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with a special fund for epidemic diseases, has made agreements through the 2025/26 budget to strengthen emergency services across the country.

Additionally, Minister Mhagama announced that the government, through the Ministry of Health, plans to launch a Health TV  aimed at providing health information and education to the public to help prevent various diseases, including epidemics.

" Tanzania has set a record as one of the two to three countries in the East African region with a machine that monitors cancer diagnosis and treatment, costing over 18 billion shillings." She said .

"We are also one of the three countries in the SADC region that have this PET-Scan machine, and Tanzania is the sixth country in the SADC region with many MRI machines. These are achievements of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. In terms of medical tourism, we have seen an increase of 12,000 tourists coming to our country for treatment in a short period," she explained.

She expressed gratitude to all health sector workers, led by chief doctors, for ensuring that quality health services continue to be provided in hospitals and health centers across the country.

The initiative to reduce deaths caused by emergencies is a crucial step aimed at lowering mortality rates among citizens. This effort is essential for fostering a collaborative and healthy community, ultimately contributing to the overall development of both the populace and the nation as a whole.
