Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), in collaboration with the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS), is organizing the 23rd Kili Challenge, a renowned fundraising campaign aimed at supporting national efforts to combat HIV and AIDS.
The launch event is scheduled for July 18, 2025, with participant registration expected to take place on July 24, 2025.
This year's event holds special significance as GGML celebrates its 25th anniversary of operations in Tanzania, marked by a commemorative flag to be raised at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Stephen Mhando, GGML's Public Relations and Communications Manager and Kili Trust Fund Administrator, noted that since its inception in 2002, the Kili Challenge has been an annual event encouraging individuals and organizations to climb Africa's highest peak and cycle 430 kilometers around it.
Both activities, spanning seven days, symbolize endurance and social responsibility, reinforcing GGML's commitment to addressing community health priorities. With the theme "Shall We Leave It?", the event emphasizes the need for continued collaboration and sustainable investment in one of Africa's major health challenges.
Over the years, the Kili Challenge has raised funds that have supported various organizations improving the lives of those living with HIV and AIDS, contributing to hospitals, health centers, orphanages, and community organizations focused on achieving three key national goals: eliminating new infections, preventing AIDS-related deaths, and eradicating stigma.
Participants this year will include GGML employees, representatives from TACAIDS, and stakeholders from various sectors.
