The construction project of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline from Hoima in Uganda to Chongoleani in Tanga region will generate its electricity using the oil that will be produced to meet the needs of electricity in times of emergency.
This was said by the Coordinator of Piece number 15 in the area of welding, laying of pipes and laying of electrical cables to be used for fuel pumping stations, Engineer Peter Mwinuka when he was talking about the preparation of construction and the laying of infrastructure for the production of electricity in the project area to meet emergency needs during the implementation of the project.
" The construction of the emergency electricity infrastructure, the Tanzania Electricity Supply Corporation (TANESCO), expects to provide EACOP with a total of 100 megawatts for the use of electricity throughout the project area from the cooling stations of Majani wide, Kyaka, Kibeta, Bulyanhulu, Lusu, and Singida, where in terms of the electricity of the generators that will be produced, they will use the stations of Muleba, Igungai, Mbogwe, Singida and Tanga where each will have 25 megawatts." he said .
Speaking about how the electricity production technology works, Engineer Peter said that basically the oil will be transported along with 2 lines from tilenga to Uganda using special generators as in the form of grids using special lines parallel to the oil pipeline.
He said that currently the work of laying the infrastructure of electricity and pipe has reached 45 percent and added that other sources of electricity that will be used during the implementation of the project include solar electricity where they are currently in talks on the implementation of the project which will be implemented area of the camp when the project is completed
" according to the work plan, they have to lay the pipes for about 3 kilometers a day if there are no challenges. up to 2 to 1.5 kilometers if there are challenges." he added
Giving an assessment of the participation of natives in the implementation of the EACOP project along with the benefits for one of the natives of the beneficiaries of the project who is young David Chinanda has said that there has been great success in the project due to the knowledge from experts from abroad who have great experience in the implementation of such projects.
He has said that previously he was not aware of many issues regarding the quality and implementation of projects in the oil sector, but due to foreign experts giving them internal education, he has been more knowledgeable enough to teach others
"In fact, I was not an expert at all in this technology of installing pipes on the ground, but I thank these experts at the moment, natives, we have benefited from their expertise and we can work anywhere, even internationally,’’ said David.
He has explained that the Crude Oil Pipeline project has employed many skilled and unskilled young people and they have been doing well academically.
