They voiced their appreciation in the village on August 12, 2025, during the distribution of six-kilogram gas stoves (LPG) along with their burners at a subsidized price of 19,500 shillings per stove.
"We thank the government for bringing us these stoves that will simplify our lives; these stoves are also an environmental savior, and I believe that deforestation will decrease," said Davis Majaliwa, a resident of Usevya.
On her part, Christina Sindano, a resident of Usevya Village, expressed her gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for being at the forefront of this campaign, which she said benefits the citizens, especially women.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Usevya Village, Focus Kapongwa, noted that the villagers have been accustomed to cutting down trees for firewood and charcoal, but the arrival of this project will help reduce the indiscriminate cutting of trees.
"We are thankful for this service; we have faced significant challenges in purchasing charcoal as it is currently very expensive, and these stoves will help us lower our living costs," Kapongwa said.
Discussing the project, the Gender and Energy Specialist at the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Dr. Joseph Sambali, mentioned that this initiative in Katavi Region is being implemented in collaboration with the National Gas Company Limited, with a total of 3,255 six-kilogram gas stoves (LPG) along with their cookers and burners to be distributed in Mlele District at subsidized prices.
Additionally, the District Administrative Secretary of Mlele, Yahaya Mbulu, urged residents to seize the opportunities provided by the government, including access to clean cooking energy, to protect their health and preserve the environment.
"The government led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has prioritized Clean Cooking Energy; it is estimated that around 31,000 people die each year due to the use of unsafe energy sources," Mbulu pointed out.
Therefore, we are promoting a clean energy campaign to enhance efficiency in the energy sector, aiming to improve health and safety against diseases caused by polluting energy.
