The astonishing results from September 2025 have confirmed that DP World's management at the Port of Dar es Salaam has brought about significant transformations, as the port breaks its historical performance records.
The released statistics reveal a substantial increase in all port services, signaling a new vitality and great hope for Tanzania's economy and the East African region.
According to internal reports from the Port Authority, the Port of Dar es Salaam handled a total of 29,665 containers, marking a 59% increase compared to the previous period. This remarkable growth reflects renewed confidence among traders and importers in the port's efficiency, which reduces business costs and accelerates the flow of goods.
In the automotive sector, performance surged impressively, with a total of 15,000 vehicles received, representing a 39% increase. This not only indicates a growing vehicle market in Tanzania but also confirms the efficiency in service delivery for vehicle importers, making the Port of Dar es Salaam a crucial gateway for vehicles heading to neighboring countries.
Additionally, new records were set in cargo services, with 381,000 tons of dry bulk cargo handled, an increase of 26%. General cargo also saw a 9% rise, reaching 158,000 tons.
These results demonstrate how effective management can enhance operational efficiency, allowing the port to handle a greater volume of cargo without delaying operations.
The achievements of the Port of Dar es Salaam directly reflect the commitment of the Sixth Phase Government, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to improve economic infrastructure and attract international investors.

The Port of Dar es Salaam is the main port in Tanzania, capable of handling 14 million metric tons of dry cargo and 6.0 million metric tons of liquid cargo. This port has a total length of 2,600 meters and features 11 deep-water berths.
The Port handles approximately 95% of Tanzania's international trade. It also serves lcountries such as Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.This port serves as a convenient transport hub not only for trade to and from East and Central African countries but also for connections to and from the Far East, Europe, Australia, and the Americas.
