Why Tiwa Savage Says No to Being Called the Queen of Afrobeat

The famous singer from Nigeria, Tiwa Savage, has turned down the title of Queen of Afrobeats, which some fans and music industry people have been calling her for years.

In an interview with the well-known host Ebro, Tiwa Savage mentioned that she doesn't see why she should be the only one to receive such an honor, as she believes there are many other women excelling in the Afrobeats music scene.

However, she emphasized her gratitude for the love and respect she receives with that name, noting that it wasn't her who claimed it, but rather her fans.

"I believe there are many who deserve to be called that just like me, so I don't see myself as the only one. But I feel honored that my fans give me that name because I never gave it to myself," Tiwa Savage said.

Tiwa Savage rose to fame after returning to Nigeria in 2012 and signing a contract with Mavin Records, a label owned by Don Jazzy. A year later, she released her debut album, Once Upon a Time (2013), which included popular songs like Kele Kele Love.

The singer moved to the UK at the age of 11 for her studies, and five years later, she began focusing on music. She started by singing songs from artists like George Michael and Mary J. Blige, before joining Berklee College of Music, where she graduated and then returned to Nigeria to further her music career.
