Tanzania, has been represented by leaders from the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, participated in the "Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women" held in Beijing, China.
Speaking on October 13, 2025, alongside the meeting, the Registrar of Non-Governmental Organizations, Vickness Mayao, who leads Tanzania's delegation, stated that their participation aimed to learn and share experiences on effective ways to achieve gender equality and empower women.
"We have discussed the successes and challenges faced by various countries in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment since the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action in 1995," Vickness remarked.
Additionally, the Assistant Director of the Women’s Department from the same ministry, Juliana Kibonde, noted that the meeting, organized by the Government of the People's Republic of China in collaboration with the All-China Women’s Federation and U.N. Women, has significantly contributed to countries learning from and sharing their successes and challenges in achieving gender equality.
"The meeting aimed to celebrate and evaluate the 30 years since the Beijing Conference held in 1995 here in Beijing. Now, as we mark 30 years, we celebrate the achievements in implementing the 12 goals from that conference, which each country chose to pursue, while also addressing the remaining challenges to create a world with gender equality and women's empowerment," Juliana emphasized.
The meeting was inaugurated by the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and attended by top leaders from various countries and governments, ministers, and ambassadors from over 110 nations, along with representatives from the United Nations and various international organizations, with more than 800 participants present at the event.
The meeting was guided by the theme "A Shared Future: A New and Accelerated Process for Inclusive Development of Women."
