Tanzania has emphasized the strengthening of collaboration between the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and the University of Vienna in the fields of science and technology, including solar energy, to produce skilled professionals for the benefit of both parties.

This was said by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics at UDSM, Prof. Rose Upor, during discussions with an Austrian delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for political affairs, Hon. Ambassador Dr. Hannah Liko, who visited the university on March 24, 2026, with the aim of enhancing educational cooperation between Tanzania and Austria.

Prof. Upor noted that to further strengthen the existing partnership between UDSM and the University of Vienna, it is essential to increase funding for various academic programs and facilitate the exchange of experts who can teach even through online platforms.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania in Vienna, Ambassador Naimi S.H. Aziz, stated that the collaboration between Tanzania and Austria in the education sector significantly contributes to skill development, institutional strengthening, and improving service quality in the country.

Dr. Liko praised the existing partnership between UDSM and the University of Vienna, while suggesting the introduction of German language training at the University of Dar es Salaam. She mentioned that the enhancement of cooperation in the education sector would contribute to economic and diplomatic development for both nations.

The collaboration between UDSM and the University of Vienna focuses on four main strategic areas, including student exchanges to provide international experience, the exchange of academic and administrative staff, the implementation of joint research addressing global challenges such as good governance and sustainable development, as well as the publication of joint academic works to ensure that African perspectives are well represented internationally.
