Lamine Yamal's Parents: The Untold Story Behind the Barcelona Star's Rise to Glory

Spanish and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been shining globally as one of the best players of his generation, with his parents, Mounir Nasraoui and Sheila Ebana, being crucial pillars in his journey to success.

Yamal was born on July 13, 2007, near the city of Barcelona, Spain. His father, Mounir Nasraoui, is from Morocco, while his mother, Sheila Ebana, is of Equatorial Guinean descent. Because of this background, Yamal was eligible to play for Spain, Morocco, or Equatorial Guinea, but he chose to represent Spain from his time in the youth teams.

His parents separated when he was about three years old. After that, Yamal lived mostly with his mother in the town of Granollers, where Sheila Ebana worked at a fast-food restaurant to raise and provide for her son.

In a 2025 interview, Yamal said his mother initially wanted to see him earn a university degree, but he had a dream of becoming a footballer.

"I told my parents, don't count on me for a job, that's fine, but when it comes to football, don't worry, I will be a footballer," Yamal said.

Sheila Ebana also made a significant contribution to his football journey. Through people she met at work, Yamal got the opportunity to join the CF La Torreta youth academy, which helped him start his football career even when the family was facing financial challenges.

Currently, both parents have started new families. His father Mounir announced his engagement to his partner Kristina in 2025, while Sheila Ebana has remarried and had another son named Keyne, who is often seen cheering on his older brother from the stands.

Despite no longer being together, Mounir and Sheila have remained devoted fans of their son and are frequently seen attending his matches together and important football events.

After Spain's victories at Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup, the parents were among those who congratulated Yamal, who has continued to show deep love for his family.

Speaking about his mother, Yamal said:

"For me, she is my queen and the one I love the most."

Additionally, to honor his parents' heritage, Yamal wears boots featuring the flags of Morocco and Equatorial Guinea, despite playing for the Spanish national team.
