What the 1.5 Trillion Budget Request from the Health Ministry Means for Citizens

The Minister of Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama, has requested the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania to approve 1.6 trillion shillings for the revenue and expenditures of her ministry for the 2025/2026 financial year.

While presenting this budget today, June 02, 2025, in Parliament in Dodoma, Minister Mhagama explained that the budget focuses on various priorities.

She mentioned that these priorities include strengthening preventive health services against both infectious and non-communicable diseases, as well as improving the availability and quality of health services provided from the grassroots level to the national level.

Other priorities include enhancing the availability and development of health professionals in mid-level, specialty, and subspecialty fields, improving specialty medical services, and boosting medical tourism in the country.

Additionally, the priorities she highlighted involve promoting and managing traditional and alternative medicine initiatives, as well as improving access to treatment services for infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and outbreaks.

Also, Dr. Mhagama, said that 135,526 mothers have had their lives saved during childbirth through the emergency referral system known as M-mama.

"A total of 135,526 mothers have had their lives saved during childbirth through the emergency referral system M-Mama, which was initiated by the Honorable President of the United Republic of Tanzania and is being implemented nationwide," she stated.
