Premier League champions, Liverpool, will fulfill the remainder of Diogo Jota's contract by compensating his family following his untimely passing at the age of 28.
The Portuguese forward and his brother Andre tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Spain during the early hours of Thursday morning, July 3. Jota, who had signed a five-year contract extension with Liverpool in 2022, was reportedly earning £140,000 weekly, which totals approximately £7.2 million annually.
The club is set to pay nearly £14.5 million to Jota's family, which corresponds to the exact amount owed for the final two years of his contract.
This act reflects Liverpool's dedication to supporting the family of the deceased player during this challenging period.
The father of three passed away just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.
He joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and made 182 appearances for the Reds, netting 65 goals and providing 26 assists.
Jota secured the Premier League title with Liverpool last season and had previously won the FA Cup along with two League Cups.
