The Tanzanian government has set ambitious trade goals in collaboration with Turkey, aiming to achieve a trade value of $1 billion.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country's economy through economic diplomacy and to boost the export of Tanzanian products to the Turkish market.
During a signing ceremony for the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) agreement in Dar es Salaam, Minister of Industries and Trade, Dr. Selemani Jafo, emphasized that this partnership is focused on producing high-quality goods and enhancing the industrial, agricultural, and mining sectors for international markets.
He added that through a team of experts and private sector involvement, they aim to leverage trade as a primary gateway to opportunities.
According to 2024 statistics, trade between Tanzania and Turkey stood at $284 million, with Turkey exporting $217 million worth of goods to Tanzania, indicating significant untapped potential.
Dr. Jafo highlighted the rapid strengthening of diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations, particularly following the establishment of embassies in 2009 and 2017.
He pointed out that high-level visits, including those of Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan to Tanzania and President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Turkey in 2024, have significantly fueled this cooperation.
Additionally, he mentioned that Turkish companies have been involved in major development projects in Tanzania, such as the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which has created new jobs and opportunities for Tanzanians.
Acting Turkish Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Ali Goktug IPEK, remarked that the JTC serves as a 'crucial platform' to eliminate trade barriers, streamline business processes, and attract new investments.
The Joint Business Committee will serve as a powerful platform to eliminate barriers, promote investment, and create new opportunities for both nations, stated Ambassador Goktug. He further emphasized Turkey's commitment to collaborating with Tanzania across various sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and technology, highlighting the shared goal of enhancing mutual development under the leadership of Presidents ErdoÄŸan and Samia.Tanzania holds great optimism that this partnership will usher in a new chapter of economic growth, job creation, education, and success for its citizens.
