Tanzania: The Star of African Tourism

Main star in Africa tourism

Tanzania has emerged as the first African country to achieve a remarkable 66% increase in tourism revenue, followed closely by Tunisia and Morocco.

The nation has also seen a 50% rise in tourist numbers, securing a spot among the top 20 countries globally with significant growth in tourism since 2019.

According to the United Nations Tourism report for the first quarter of 2025, Tanzania continues to excel in tourism both in Africa and worldwide, showing an increase in visitors and revenue compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.

The report highlights that Tanzania ranks among the top three African nations for tourist growth since 2019, with a 50% increase, trailing only Morocco at 60% and Ethiopia at 52%.

Furthermore, Tanzania is positioned as the 12th country globally, alongside nations like Norway, Brazil, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Moldova, in generating substantial income from tourism. Dr. Hassan Abbas, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, attributed this success to effective international marketing strategies, including initiatives like the Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania films, which have been supported by government officials and ambassadors.

He emphasized the importance of continuing to develop strategies to promote Tanzania on a global scale, noting that countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia have seen similar successes through sports and large-scale events. Dr. Abbas also mentioned the influx of tourists currently visiting Tanzania to explore its attractions and contribute to the economy.
