How is JKCI Partnering with AU to Boost Heart Health in Africa?

Medical Services from the African Union (AU), Dr. Adamu Isah, the Director of Nursing at the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI), Robert Malya, the Director of the Cardiology Department at JKCI, Dr. Tatizo Waane, and AU staff posed for a group photo after the completion of the visit to assess the heart treatment services provided by JKCI.

The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is set to sign a special agreement with the African Union (AU) to provide heart medical services for the union's employees, including bringing in some heart patients from various countries across Africa.

‎Speaking to reporters, JKCI's Executive Director Dr. Peter Kisenge said that the institute will participate in heart examinations and treatments for AU employees when they arrive in the country for meetings.

‎"The arrival of a delegation from the African Union (AU) demonstrates how Tanzania is recognized for its high-quality specialized heart medical services across Africa. We have been visited and have seen the significant investments made by our government under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan," Dr. Kisenge remarked.

‎He added that after conducting a thorough assessment, the AU delegation was impressed with the quality of services, infrastructure, and the expertise available at JKCI, leading them to agree to enter into a special agreement for the institute to serve AU employees and citizens from various countries in Africa.

‎On his part, the Director of Medical Services from the African Union (AU), Dr. Adamu Isah, mentioned that they visited JKCI to evaluate its capabilities and discuss medical cooperation, and they were pleased with what they observed.

‎"We are so impressed that our African Union employees will be able to receive heart medical services here without having to go to Europe or other places," Dr. Isah stated.

‎He further noted that this step praises the significant investment by the Tanzanian government in the health sector and should be emulated by other countries in Africa, aiming to fulfill the African Union's vision .

‎Additionally, the Director of Cardiology at JKCI, Dr. Tatizo Waane, said that this visit aims to strengthen cooperation between Tanzania and neighboring countries.

‎"This visit is a part of establishing a network of healthcare services across Africa, collaborating with neighboring countries such as Zambia, Congo, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, and others, to provide excellent heart disease care," stated Dr. Waane.

‎JKCI continues to lead in heart treatment services in Africa, receiving patients from various nations, and the arrival of an African Union (AU) delegation is expected to enhance cooperation and solidify Tanzania's position as a hub for quality healthcare services on the continent.
